Winter and Spring Classes and Events at The Bridge

January 4,2017

Greetings from The Bridge-Between Retreat Center! I hope you are enjoying the season, and want to wish you all a very Happy New Year!

Life gets so busy, and calendars fill up quickly - so, without suggesting that you adopt a "resolution" that we associate with New Year's...I would like to suggest that it is a perfect time of year to commit to slowing down, taking a breath, and adding in some "you time" for the new year! We cannot take care of others if we do not take care of ourselves.

“I encourage you, to take control
to take back your power.
Make the time and effort
to invest in yourself. Self-care and healing.
Taking time for stillness and contemplation.
Reflect on your own behaviour.
Decide what kind of person you want to be
and then take the steps to be that person.”
- Akiroq Brost

I sometimes hear people say it is so hard to drive "all the way out there" for a class or workshop at The Bridge. I can understand that - we are so good at filling up every moment in our lives, and rushing from place to place. Despite that, I invite you to take time for yourself, or with your friends/family, and enjoy the drive to our beautiful retreat - watch for the deer, the turkeys, even an occasional fox - and acknowledge that drive as part of your "time away" - not a thing to rush through, but a journey to enjoy and relish.

Personally, I cherish my drive from Allouez to Denmark, the changing landscape as I get further out of town and into the country - my breathing changes, I feel my body relax. And it only takes me about 20 minutes...time well spent!

As a nurse, I can tell you that there are numerous studies that support the health benefits of slowing down, spending time in a natural environment, being in a community of like-minded people, and participating in practices related to strengthening one's spirituality.

It is in that spirit that I provide our current schedule of confirmed events through the beginning of summer - along with detailed information on those coming up during the depths of Winter in Wisconsin! I hope you will take some time for you, and join us here at our beautiful retreat center! And stay tuned, because we have some other offerings in the works!

Come home to The Bridge-Between!

Blessings,
heather

VICTORY GARDEN INITIATIVE FOOD LEADER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

JANUARY 28-29 (First of three weekends)
ALSO: MARCH 4-5 and APRIL 29-30

The Victory Garden Initiative is set to strengthen a new round of community leaders with the 2017 Food Leader Certificate program, beginning January 28, 2017. The FOOD LEADER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM (FLCP) provides professional and personal leadership development by equipping emerging food leaders to grow their own food, learn about the food system, and lead food projects in their communities. Upon completion of the program, Food Leaders will be presented with a formal Food Leader certificate.

The FLCP is a 10-month long program that builds skills and bolsters their resumes. The program requires a significant time commitment which must be taken into account before signing up for the program. Each retreat takes place over two days and participants are expected to stay overnight at The Bridge-Between Retreat Center.

Past Food Leader projects include converting unused land to a lush, productive farm for a local church, establishing a gardening and cooking community for millennials, working with youth at The Domes, building the first handicapped-accessible raised garden bed prototype of its kind, establishing a composting system at a large workplace, and launching a microgreens business.

Victory Garden Initiative is thrilled to begin another year of cultivating leaders to make change starting with their own communities. “This program has given me the knowledge and confidence to take the ideas I have around the Food Movement and bring them to life,” says Katie Felton, 2013 Food Leader.

The 2017 program includes three weekend retreats, starting with our Kickoff Retreat on January 28-29 at The Bridge Between Retreat Center, a beautiful organic farm, educational center and retreat destination in Denmark, WI. Registration is open now for Victory Garden Initiative’s Food Leader Certificate Program! For more information and to register, visit:
